Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is one of the oldest safety certification companies in the world. They certify products, facilities, processes or systems against industry standards. In doing so, they have issued more than 20 different UL certifications for a wide range of categories.
Do your hardware products require UL certification?
UL certification is a North American product certification from Underwriters Laboratories. It indicates that the product has been tested by UL and meets US and Canadian safety standards. Products bearing this logo are likely to meet standardized minimum requirements for safe operation, which aids sales and marketing, while also avoiding a series of unfortunate events for consumers and any lawsuits from manufacturers that may ensue.
Well, for hardware entrepreneurs, the UL mark is well worth it, but it does mean one more thing to worry about before you hit the market, and it costs a fortune. So the question is, do you really need the UL Listed Mark?
