What is RoHS Certificate?
RoHS means “Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances” in the “Hazardous Substances Directive” in electrical and electronic equipment. This restriction is anchored in EU Directive 2011/65 / EU. If a product is RoHS-certified, this confirms that the proportion of hazardous, or difficult to dispose substances is limited to the maximum allowed. Examples of such substances are Cadmium Lead,Hexavalent chromium,Mercury,Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB),Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE),Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP),Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP),Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP). Manufacturers of electronic devices are required to use more environmentally-friendly alternatives, e.g. unleaded soldering.
Compliance with the RoHS Directive must be confirmed in the EU Declaration of Conformity. This is done by means of a technical documentation according to DIN EN 50581 directive.
Since 2011, manufacturers have been allowed to use only CE-certified products. CE see also above. It stands for compliance with EU Regulation 765/2008 and confirms that the product meets the applicable requirements laid down in the Community harmonization legislation on its installation.
What products are covered by RoHS?
The following is a list of all the categories covered by Annex I of the EU RoHS Directive:
- Large household appliances.
- Small household appliances.
- IT and telecommunications equipment.
- Consumer equipment.
- Lighting equipment.
- Electrical and electronic tools.
- Toys, leisure and sports equipment.
- Medical devices.
- Monitoring and control instruments including industrial monitoring and control instruments.
- Automatic dispensers.
Other EEE not covered by any of the categories above.
Some examples of Category 11 products include:
- 2-wheeled electric vehicles
- electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) such as e-cigarettes
- cannabis vaporizers and vape pens
- electrical cables that are less than 250V working voltage
- and non finished cables such as cable reels without plugs.
What’s RoHS process?
1.Provide BOM of product to get quotation.
2.Provide application form and samples to processed applicate RoHS Certificate.
3.Start testing.
4.Issue RoHS Certificate after pass testing.
What happens if your are not RoHS compliance?
In addition to set fines, companies may be ordered to pay for the testing administered by the state. The true cost of RoHS non-compliance, however, lies in the loss of market access.
A report estimates the cost of an electronics product recall at $11.71 million USD.
