SONCAP certification is provided by an accreditation body. Exporters should declare the HS Code of the products being shipped at the Form M stage prior to SONCAP certification. The certificate is then sent electronically to the Nigerian Standards Organization’s portal.
An import license in Nigeria is an approval document issued by various government agencies that regulate and identify the goods that can be brought into the country.
Nigerian Standards Organization (SON): This agency is most important in Nigeria’s imports. SON operates and issues licenses to importers of various commodities through its program called SONCAP (Nigerian Standards Organization Conformity Assessment Program). SON covers almost all items to be imported into Nigeria, except those legally authorized by other agencies.
